Frequently Asked Questions
What do I offer?
Caregivers try so many different strategies when they know or think their child is neurodivergent. Even with all of these strategies, it can be hard to find something that helps that child manage emotional and behavioral challenges.
That is where I come in. I act as a consultant because caregivers are the experts on their kids and I am an expert in caregiver strategies for neurodivergent children. I give parents space to discuss what has been hard for the family, what they have tried, and together we come up with ways to help with a whole range of issues like child distress, aggression, organization, or whatever else the family needs to give the caregivers more confidence and to strengthen the caregiver-child relationship.
Who is the right client?
Anyone who wants to learn new ways to interact with their child. I will work with any caregivers who want to be involved in sessions, whether that means just working with one caregiver or including extended family and friends who are part of the family’s life. I work with children who are neurodivergent, such as children who have or are waiting for diagnoses of autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, and other disorders. I also work with families of children with emotional and behavioral challenges, more generally.
How does scheduling work?
I know how hard it can be to schedule yet another appointment for a family who already has a lot going on. So, my goal is to provide short-term consultations on Zoom on a schedule that works for you.
What are my specialties?
I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology and have trained in a number of evidence-based parent-trainings for children with and without neurodevelopment developmental disorders, including Parent Child Interaction Therapy, RUBI parent training, and Early Start Denver Model. I also have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other programs that focus on mindfulness, emotion regulation, and social skills. I actively participate in trainings to make sure that all care I provide is evidence-based and so that I can have many tools to offer your family.
Do you work with health insurance companies?
I do not work directly with insurance companies. This means that you are financially responsible for fees at the time of service. Payment may be made using Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or FSA cards. The first 90-minute session is $275 and all subsequent 50 minute sessions are $200. I am happy to offer documentation for submitting a claim with your health plan provider.
What is your cancellation policy?
I prefer cancellations at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment time. However, I know that emergencies come up so you will only be charged the regular fee for your session if you cancel less than 4 hours before your scheduled appointment time.
How should you prepare for our first session?
Before your first session you will receive intake paperwork that can be submitted electronically. Also, think about what your main concerns are with your child, what strategies you have used that you have liked, and which ones you have tried that you have not liked.
